In Living Honor of Stanley Brand
I personally wanted to find a way to let my grandfather, Stanley Brand (81) know I am proud of his 35 years sober as a former alcoholic. I am proud of his desire and determination a to seek mental heath and substance abuse assistance during the lowest time in his life. I also embrace the courage and strength it took him to share the freedom he received in return, to live his life sober, vigilant, and against the statistics or odds. I am eternally grateful he decided early in his life to combat a disease that is not so kind to many others. I know alcoholism took you places, and created issues you never imagined. However, you did not let that small matter became the biggest factor in your life. As a clinician , I know understand the importance of sharing the gift of sobriety with others, the true testimony of healing and the process of change. I admonish you before the entire world, for taking the last 30 years of your life and counting, to volunteer as a AA Sponsor in Buffalo, New York. Often times, many individuals which attempt to journey down the road of recovery are not supported properly in the process or don’t know how to seek proper assistance. I am glad he made it happen for him, in spite of conflicted levels of support, or uncertainty in his own mind. My grandfather, took one step at a time, I have learned the importance of being positive, resilient, and dogmatic in believing in the need to become a better person. I am very happy that no matter what his past presented he did not give up on trying each day. In closing, I am proud of you and grateful you set the standard for the need to seek services to repair your own life, even when you think you are out for the count!! I am glad our family has our very own hero, Mr. Stanley Brand, I have given my flowers to the living. JVB Isaiah 54:17,; Exod. 12; Ps. 105:37;; Romans 3:25
